Position Purpose

Develop and expand the project sales business segment, with operations and project management oversite of mechanical contracting projects. Manage relationships with key stakeholders, create benchmarks for success and deliverables and plan work assignments that meet deadlines while considering changes in budget or scope during the execution.

Business Development Position Responsibilities 

  • Develop strong customer and partner relationships through continuous engagement with Bassett’s maintenance agreement customers and strategic partners
  • Conduct thorough project opportunity qualifications to include an understanding of; competitive landscape, clients budget cycle and project approval stage/process
  • Coordination and development of customer solutions resulting in a project plan of equipment scope and project deliverables.
  • Work with customers to define their needs in order to create effective solutions to meet their requirements
    • Ability to sketch layouts in a proficient manner to be utilized for engineering and estimating purposes.
    • Gather photos and information required by engineering/estimating. Document via travelers.
    • Research and identify project plans and unit information.
    • Assist engineering and estimating as required:
      • Ex. Take subcontractors on walk throughs.
  • Estimating – Coordinate with Estimating team to develop sound estimates.
    • Provide layouts and traveler to estimating team.
    • Information should be on plan view and/or isometric drawings.
    • Clear specifications, means and methods communicated.
  • Ensure accountability to all aspects of the solution development process as well as proposal follow through at all stages of the opportunity. 
  • Close business – Sell Bassett’s value propositions, identify gaps in competitor capabilities/offerings, and maximize relationship strengths in the sales process.

Operations Position Responsibilities

  • Project Management – Self manage the execution of sold projects as a turn-key point of contact for the client through coordination and rigorous oversight of
    • Overall construction schedule
    • Equipment/Material Requisitions
    • Subcontractors
    • Manpower
    • Equipment Rentals
    • Site coordination
  • Collaborate effectively with all the cross functional partners participating in a given project to determine the specifications of the project plan which includes accurate pricing, correct equipment, as well as project deliverables for each project, application and site.
    • Analyze requirement documents, blueprints and project plans to gain a thorough understanding of the project. 
  • Negotiate contracts with external vendors/subs to reach profitable agreements.
  • Determine needed resources (manpower, equipment and materials) from start to finish with attention to budgetary limitations: part of contractor selection and other staff and allocation responsibilities.
  • Develop estimates based on partial information, provide layouts and develop quantity-based estimates for added scope and/or change orders.
  • Participate in project review and cost saving enhancement discussions. 
  • Prepare content and supporting details for all relevant meetings, including presentations, final reports, performance measurement criteria, and measures of success.
  • Address customer questions, concerns, and/or complaints throughout the project.

Summary of Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in field related to construction or project management preferred.
  • Five years of field experience preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with concurrent deadlines.
  • Experience in Industrial HVAC/P markets preferred.
  • High level of mechanical aptitude and excellent math skills, strong conceptual skills, and the ability to comprehend and communicate mechanical concepts. 
  • Meticulous attention to detail; able to organize and track pertinent sales/project data; able to multi-task well; able to prioritize to complete projects on time.
  • In-depth understanding of construction procedures and material and project management principles
  • Good knowledge of MS Office
  • Familiarity with construction/ project management software and CRM software
  • Outstanding communication and negotiation skills
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
