Corporate Accountant

Crane Engineering is a family-oriented Midwest and East coast based company; with locations in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. As a result of our growth, we have a need for a Corporate Accountant. 


Crane Engineering is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Corporate Accountant to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with senior finance leadership, including the Director of Finance, Controllers, and CFO, to manage and oversee various financial and accounting activities. Playing a key role in maintaining corporate policies and ensuring compliance with GAAP accounting principles. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a dynamic, growth-oriented company while collaborating in a growing team.



What You’ll Do

Develop and maintain corporate policies and procedures, including but not limited to the Capitalization Policy, Chart of Authority, and Inventory Obsolescence.

Oversee fixed asset accounting, including handling additions, disposals, depreciation, and lease management.

Support the annual audit process conducted by third party.

Roll out and manage internal lease accounting tool.

Prepare and write year-end financial statements and footnotes.

Manage and monitor inventory costing and overhead capitalization processes.

Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and company policies.

Oversee intercompany sales and elimination entries.

Perform general ledger accounting duties, including month-end closing activities and journal entries.

Oversee cash balances, cash pooling, debt and interest payments, and ensure covenant compliance.

Conduct research on technical accounting topics such as acquisition accounting, lease accounting, revenue recognition, debt financing, and stock compensation.

Oversee acquisition accounting.

Help maintain and develop consolidation tool (Planful).

Collaborate with divisional finance teams to ensure alignment and accuracy across financial operations.

Review and resolve discrepancies in financial entries, documents, and reports.

Provide back-up support to the Controllers as needed.

Contribute to the annual budgeting and forecasting process.

      May perform other duties as assigned.



What We’re Looking For

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required.

2 to 4 years of experience in a technical accounting role; public accounting experience is preferred.

CPA or MBA is a significant advantage.

In-depth technical knowledge of general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and income tax.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail, and a focus on accuracy.

Ability to collaborate effectively within a diverse team environment, working with employees and customers alike.

Demonstrates strong initiative, taking independent action and resolving issues without supervision.

Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and ability to research technical accounting issues is essential.

Skilled in communicating complex financial concepts to various audiences both in writing and verbally.
