Aurora BayCare Medical Center and YWCA Partner to Inspire Future STEAM Leaders Through Tech GYRLS Experience

Aurora BayCare Medical Center and the YWCA are teaming up to host the Tech GYRLS STEAM experience, an interactive event designed to inspire girls ages 8–18 to explore opportunities in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM). The event will take place on Tuesday, July 28th at 1160 Kepler Drive.

The Tech GYRLS program seeks to empower young girls by providing hands-on learning experiences and exposure to careers in STEAM fields. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with female healthcare providers and professionals through engaging demonstrations and activities that showcase how STEAM concepts are applied in real-world healthcare settings.

The event follows the success of previous Tech GYRLS experiences, which allows participants to continue to build upon their knowledge and curiosity of healthcare careers through interactive activities and hands-on demonstrations. Past programs have included opportunities for girls to engage with medical tools and learn directly from women working in healthcare, helping them envision themselves in future STEAM careers.

"Programs like this help young girls see the possibilities that exist within STEAM careers," said Dr. Elizabeth Dickson Michelson, Gynecologic Oncologist at Aurora BayCare Clinic Gynecologic Oncology. "By connecting participants with women who are making an impact in healthcare and other technical fields, we hope to spark curiosity, build confidence, and encourage the next generation of innovators and leaders who want to make a difference."

Research continues to show that exposure to STEAM opportunities can play a critical role in helping young women develop interest and confidence in traditionally underrepresented career fields. Through this collaboration, Aurora BayCare Medical Center and the YWCA are proud to create meaningful experiences that inspire future women leaders.
