J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue (JRAAR), Wisconsin’s #1 turtle rescue, invites the public to celebrate World Turtle Day at a special educational event on Saturday, May 23rd from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at their rescue facility.
This family-friendly event will give attendees the chance to meet live turtle and tortoise ambassadors, learn about responsible pet ownership, and discover how turtles play an important role in our ecosystems.
JRAAR has taken in hundreds of turtles since its founding, many of which were surrendered by owners who could no longer care for them. Events like this aim to educate the public and prevent improper releases that can harm both the animal and the environment.
“World Turtle Day is a great opportunity to connect people with these amazing animals and teach them how to care for them responsibly,” said John Moyles, Director at J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue. “We see firsthand what happens when people aren’t given the right information, and events like this help make sure turtles stay in safe, appropriate homes.”
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet ambassador animals such as Bowser the alligator snapping turtle, Diamond the diamondback terrapin, and Big Dude the tortoise. Turtle-themed crafts will be available for kids throughout the day at no cost.
A $5 admission fee will be collected at the door for the live presentation. In celebration of World Turtle Day, adoption fees for all turtles and tortoises will be waived for approved adopters with scheduled appointments. Each adopter will also receive a complimentary gift bag.
JRAAR encourages anyone interested in adopting to visit www.jraar.org in advance to view available animals and submit an adoption application. Appointments are required to qualify for the waived adoption fee, with a limit of one per family.
